Problem Gambling Counselors Moving To Hotlines in Singapore

Problem gambling has been at the forefront of many arguments worldwide over the casino gambling debate. Singapore is showing that with the proper tools, problem gambling can be curtailed.

Most opponents of casino gambling are quick to point out that problem gambling can occur more frequently when casino are involved.

The National Council on Problem Gambling is doing everything possible to prove that theory wrong. Their latest efforts have brought upon the use of phone helplines.

The Institute of Mental Health has partnered with the NCPG to start these helplines. Counselors will be available on the phone lines for people who need help with their problem gambling.

After calling, counseling will take place. The caller will then be referred to a designated NCPG center for follow up treatment.

IMH’s Community Addiction Management Programme will be supplying the counselors. The two groups involved have been working together since 2005, and are doing their part in trying to curb problem gambling.

Tropicana Casino in Atlantic City May Get One Year To Clean Up Its Act

The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement has recommended that the Tropicana Casino and Resort be issued a one year license. That will give the casino one year to try and prove that it is once again running a high-class operation.

The casino has been under scrutiny over the past year for what former workers consider to be an understaffed and dirty casino. The casino has laid off nearly 900 employees. The casino only had 3600 employees, meaning the cuts equaled one-quarter of all employees.

Columbia Sussex has taken over the casino back on January 3rd of this year. They have slashed the payroll and left the casino a dreadful place, according to the casino’s main workers union.

The Division of Gaming Enforcement has recommended to the states Casino Control Commission that the Tropicana only receive a one year license.

Most licenses are good for five years, but given the circumstances, Tropicana could get a one year license. The one year deal would allow them time to show that they have once again brought the casino up to first class status.

Executives for the casino claim that the union is the reason for the problems they have been having. They also claim that their problems are behind them and that they are once again operating at a first class level.
